Questions about interviews

Short, practical answers to common questions. Open a lesson above for examples and a drill.

When should I use the STAR method in an interview?

Use Situation, Task, Action, and Result to organize a real example when asked about a past experience. For hypothetical or values questions, answer the scenario or principle directly instead of forcing it into STAR.

How much of a behavioral answer should describe my actions?

Keep the setup brief and spend most of the answer on what you did, why you chose it, and what followed. Distinguish your contribution from the team’s work without claiming sole credit.

What if I do not know the answer to an interview question?

Say what you know, identify the part you would need to verify, and explain how you would approach it. A thoughtful boundary is more accurate than guessing or inventing experience.
